The Girl in Red

This is the first illustration of the "Little Red Riding Hood" I made for Oxford University Press some years ago. After this book I was so in love with Little Red I had to make a picture book about her on my own.
I could make another one. Really. Perhaps I'll do it someday.

I've submitted the original drawing so you can see how the original work looks like. I receive a lot of answers about polyester sheets. I use it from time to time. It's a kind of plastic sheet treated so you can draw and paint over it. It's pretty cheap. It's translucent too so, in this illustration I applied the gouache on the backside for the red sweater and the white background.

Primera ilustración de la Caperucita que hice para Oxford University Press hace algunos años. Después de este libro estaba tan enamorada de la historia que tuve que hacer un álbum ilustrado por mi cuenta.
Podría hacer otro. Tal vez algún día.

He subido el dibujo original también para que podáis ver el aspecto que tiene sin retocar. Me pregunan a menudo sobre el polyester. Lo uso de vez en cuando. Las hojas de polyester son un material plástico tratado de modo que se puede dibujar y pintar sobre él. El aspecto es similar al papel vegetal. Es bastante barato y aunque un poco difícil de encontrar. Es traslúcido. En esta ilustración apliqué gouache rojo por la parte posterior para el jersey de la niña y el blanco del fondo.

This is a very old illustration, from my very first book, Ovid's Metamorphoses published by Anaya.

It depicts the transformation of Daphne from maid to tree after praying for a way to escape from Apollo's unrequited love.

This is for the final part of the tale. The kids are going back home but they can't cross the river. Gretel asks for help to a duck and the kind animal carries the kids.

Letter U

This image is for a magazine named "Bloc". In this number they've decided to do an alphabet, and they've chosen 28 illustrators, one for each letter. The theme of each one is fixed, so for the A, someone has to do an illustration for Alice in Wonderland, for example. 

My letter is U and the theme is a novel titled "The inmortal adventure of Max Urkhaus" by Joan Manuel Gisbert. It's a complicated story about an old man, a detective and three dancing sisters.

Esta es una ilustración que hice hace tiempo para la fabulosa revista "Bloc", ahora desaparecida. Se realizó un alfabeto y eligieron a 28 ilustradores, uno para cada letra. Cada letra estaba asociada a una obra. 

La mía era la U y su novela, "La aventura inmortal de Max Urkhaus", de Joan Manuel Gisbert. Es una complicada historia acerca de un detective, un anciano y tres hermanas bailarinas.
